ANGELA HARTNETT’S BEEF & VEAL MEATBALLS
Meatballs are super-quick to make for a weeknight supper and there are many ways to
serve them (see tip). The veal in these gives
a lightness to the result, but you can swap it out for all beef, or flavourful pork mince.
This is a good way to use up any day-old bread hanging around.
The recipe is easy to double up on and freeze so you have a meal for an emergency.
SERVES 4
4 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for the onion
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
400g tin chopped tomatoes
200g white bread (day old, if possible)
whole milk (enough to soak the bread)
500g beef mince
250g English veal mince
2 tbsp finely grated parmesan, plus extra to serve
4 anchovies, finely chopped
2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley
salt and freshly ground black pepper
350g dried spaghetti, to serve (optional; see tip)
1 First make a tomato sauce. In a saucepan, heat a dash
of olive oil over a medium heat, then add half the chopped onion and half the garlic, then sauté for 10 minutes to soften. Add
the tomatoes and when the liquid starts to bubble, reduce
to a simmer and leave to cook, stirring occasionally (about 20
minutes, to create a thick sauce), while you make the meatballs.
2 In a bowl, soak the bread in the milk until soft.
In another bowl, mix the beef, veal, parmesan, anchovies, half the parsley and the rest of the onions
and garlic. Then add the soaked bread, lightly squeezing any excess milk from
it first. Mix well and season with salt and pepper.
Mould the mixture into 12-14 meatballs.
3 Put the 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying pan over a
medium heat. When hot, add the meatballs, turning (for about 5 minutes) to ensure they colour all over.
If necessary, cook in batches so they are not all
squashed together, setting each batch aside on a plate while
you cook the remainder.
4 To finish, remove the meatballs from the pan and set aside.
Pour the tomato sauce into the frying pan over a medium heat.
Put the meatballs back into the pan for a further 4-5 minutes
to cook through. Sprinkle with the remaining parsley before serving.
TIP You can serve the meatballs as they come, or
on top of spaghetti. If you would prefer the latter, cook the pasta
according to the packet instructions until al dente. Drain it in a colander, reserving
a cupful of the cooking water to loosen the meatball sauce if necessary, and then transfer it back
to the pan and toss it with a little olive
oil and butter. Put the spaghetti on a serving plate and
top with the meatballs and sauce. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil
and a sprinkle of parmesan.

Nothing signals the start of winter quite like the return of
the Fair Isle knit. Once considered ‘ugly’ knitwear we’d only pull out from
the back of our wardrobes as an alternative to a Christmas jumper (especially

or for a winter sport holiday (specifically for après-ski), the Fair Isle jumper has now become somewhat of a fashion statement.
The knit is named after the small, eponymous Shetland
Island in Scotland and uses a traditional knitting technique to create those distinctive patterns with multiple colours.
It was brought into vogue by an earlier Prince of Wales (later
Edward VIII) in the 1920s, and has remained a casual
wardrobe staple for members of the Royal Family,
including Kate Middleton, whose jumper collection includes at least three different Fair Isle designs.

Another fan of the nostalgic knit is Alexa Chung, who recently layered a
Fair Isle vest by Molly Goddard over a light blue button-down in a snap for Instagram.
The It-girl previously also wore a V-neck vest from Cotswolds-based knitwear brand Cooking Apple, and sported a chunky Fair Isle crewneck with
white, straight-leg jeans, black loafers and an oversized,
black leather blazer to ring in the festive season at private members’ club in London last year.
A host of designers have dropped Fair Isle-inspired knits for AW24, proving the
multicoloured jumpers have become a timeless investment.

Namibians returned to vote on Friday in 36 polling stations reopened two days after a chaotic election,
set to test the ruling party’s 34-year grip on power, was marred by technical problems.
Tensions are mounting in the historically stable and peaceful southern African nation where Wednesday’s election was marked by long delays and
labelled a “sham” by the opposition.
Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and legislative polls, billed as
the toughest yet for the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO)
party, in power since Namibia’s 1990 independence from
South africa.
Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems,
including issues with tablets used to register voters and shortages
of ballot papers.
In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink had run out of batteries and mobile voting teams had left areas with voters still in the queues, it said.
Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral commission extended
the vote for a second time, giving Namibians until Saturday evening to vote.
In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked to reopen, about 60 people showed up on Friday,
including Kluivert Muuondjo who arrived at 4:30 am.
The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:
00 pm on Wednesday but left before being able to vote as
he had exams the next day.

“Everyone will have the chance to vote,” he said.
But because Namibians can vote at any given polling station,
he was worried “everyone will flock to one place again.”
The disarray led to angry complaints from opposition parties
with some calling for a halt in the electoral process.
Opposition parties were scheduled to meet on Friday and issue a joint statement, according to
Christine Aochamus who represents the Independent Patriots for Change
(IPC) party.
Youth unemployment, enduring inequalities and the emergence of a generation born after independence are challenging support towards
SWAPO which has ruled since 1990.
Its candidate, vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who could become the first woman to lead the
country if elected, could face an unprecedented second round in the mineral rich country.
“To open only one place in Khomas (the region of which the capital is part of) is absurd,” said voter Ensley Engermund, who also said he couldn’t
vote on Wednesday because of long queues despite trying four different polling stations.
“Only 1.5 millions voters are registered and we get this chaos?” asked the
49-year-old security agent.
“It was to get people frustrated.”

Despite the negative reviews a number of
fans of the sequel took to social media after its release last month to
defend the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture.
The film debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office,
good enough for the weekend’s top spot, but less than projections, and half that of its predecessor.
Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie and its cinematic depth,
in breaking away from the cookie cutter nature of sequels to introduce a
musical element not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining
the franchise.
‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding that it was ‘100% as divisive as people are making it out to be.
I love that the film didn’t try to be a traditional sequel, and fully
committed to the storytelling they presented. It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any
other crowd pleasing aspects.’
Another user said, ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved how it was structured as a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the

Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters – and eventually landed a little over $1 billion in the global

The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips
– had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget increased for Folie À Deux to around $200
million.
The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International Film Festival.
Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of the Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the
film garnered an additional Academy Award for Best Original Score.
The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival
last month in September, where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31% and a critic score of 32%

Daily Mail’s Brian Viner commended the move as ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant’ but
said it lacked any thrill.
The Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab said: ‘Today Joker is best remembered as one of the
most subversive and original films of the last decade, while its hugely anticipated sequel is just as bleak and formally daring as
its predecessor’.
Meanwhile, the Irish Times’ Donald Clarke gave the movie just two stars but credited Phillips’ work for making a sequel following the first movie’s $1billion success.
Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although
Gaga worked hard to bump the ratings up in the sequel, Phillips appeared to have no idea what to do with her.
Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw claimed the movie proves ‘claustrophobic’
and ‘repetitive.’

Six months after making its world premiere at
the Bentonville Film Festival, The Seven Faces Of Jane has dropped in select theaters and VOD.
And as part of promotion some of the cast and
crew for the anthology film were on hand for the West Coast premiere
in Los Angeles on Friday night.
The movie consists of eight short films, all of which star Gillian Jacobs
as the title character.
The anthology has eight different directors,
including Jacobs along with Ken Jeong, Gia Coppola, Ryan Heffington, Alexandra Cassavetes, Boma Iluma,
Julian Acosta and Alex Takacs.

A billionaire couple have won the right to remove a single tree from the driveway of their
lavish $20million mansion after being blocked by their local council.
Paul Holmes a Court, the son of Australia’s first billionaire Robert Holmes a Court, and his wife Zara had been at loggerheads with their local council
over a request to remove a single peppermint tree
growing in the middle of their driveway.
The couple bought the four-bedroom mansion in the affluent, tree-lined suburb overlooking
Perth’s Freshwater Bay for $20.1million in August.
They wanted to remove the tree but the Shire of Peppermint Grove refused the request on the grounds the tree was
not dead or deceased.
‘We are very lucky to live here, but I have to say that the tree placement is unusual,’
Ms Holmes a Court previously told a council meeting.
‘I’m quite a reasonable and rational person, but a tree in the middle of the driveway
makes it quite tricky to reverse out.’
The couple enjoyed a breakthrough at a council meeting
last week after an alternative motion was unanimously passed that allowed the tree to
be removed on the condition they paid a $2,500 bond before any
work was done on the driveway.
They will also need to plant two replacement trees on their property.

Ms Holmes a Court previously claimed the tree’s odd placement also made it difficult to spot cars turning the corner at a
nearby intersection with Bay View Terrace.
After the motion to remove the tree was passed at the meeting, councillor Douglas
Jackson said it was a ‘good outcome’.
‘I think it meets both the owners’ wants, or expectation, but also matches the council’s needs at the same time by ensuring that there is tree cover on the verge
of that property,’ he said.
Peppermint Grove is hoping to implement a policy that would
even make it an offence to damage or remove any mature trees on private property without council approval.
Last month, WA Planning Minister John Carey said
he hoped the Shire of Peppermint Grove would ‘take a common sense approach’ to the issue.
‘This is part of the challenge that we do have with local government.
I’ve always been on the record that we need local governments to take a common sense approach to issues,’ Mr Carey told the West Australian.
‘And I understand people are passionate about trees.
But ultimately, we do need local governments to assess the situation and
find pragmatic outcomes.’
According to the online listing for the four-bedroom, four-bathroom mansion – which is built on a corner block along the
banks of the Swan River – the sprawling Federation-style property was built in around 1904.

Infighting at beleaguered CNN has reached a fever pitch as staff
– both past and present – are now playing the blame game over how far the
network has fallen.
DailyMail.com has reviewed weeks of chatter from CNN alumni who’ve been using a Facebook message board to decry
the sorry state of their once mighty employer at a disastrous time for
the network, with dismal ratings and plans for new sweeping layoffs.
And the messages show huge anger as the network’s struggles have gotten even worse in the
weeks since Donald Trump won the election.
Former producer Carper Dulmage, who now works for KABC in Los Angeles, offered
his own brutal take. ‘CNN is no longer significant’, he wrote.
One former assignment editor even said she felt good when she saw Cooper,
57, hit in the face by debris while covering Hurricane Milton in October.

Veteran humorist Bill Tush took a swing at anchor Dana Bash for
having fired host Don Lemon on her show.
‘Guy’s like a bad penny,’ he wrote.
And Helm criticized the whole approach CNN now uses
with talking heads rather than live news footage.

just argue about it.
‘There is not enough profit in being credible,’ he added.
‘Just a partisan bullhorn and to (sic) many already have that landscape claimed.
‘CNN used to be the eyes of the world, and if they got rid of every anchor with
their name in the title could probably hire 20 or 30 full field crews (camera, reporter, producer) to
be that again globally.
But the criticism hit current senior political analyst Mark Preston hard and he bit back on November
16.
‘I’m old – I am of the age that bridged the old to the new at CNN,’ the 53-year-old wrote during his November 16 outburst.
‘I began my career as a newspaper reporter/without the internet, writing stories on green screens …
it wasn’t easy.’
But he added, ‘all of you brave “journalists” who like to opine about the old
days … have no idea what the next generation of journalists face
each day.’
He then alluded to the current blood sport of
politics, where he claimed polarization has led to ‘death threats, physical violence, inability to openly discuss your employment
with friends’.
‘Instead of being a know it all – longing for the days of Ted
Turner,’ he wrote, referring to the founder of the Cable News Network, ‘why don’t you learn a lesson from him instead and BE SUPPORTIVE of our colleagues in the next
generation.’
He then went after the ’20 cranks who often complain on this message board,’ adding, ‘It
is one thing to long and remember the old days … it is delusional to think everybody should
stay the same.
‘Nobody likes a jerk,’ he continued.
‘Want to be remembered (if remembered at all) as a know it all jerk… Or as a colleague, friend, who actually cared.’
It all comes at a bad time for CNN which has seen its share of the market plummet – its primetime viewers have plummeted by 47 percent since the election and stand at only 398,000, less
than one-sixth of Fox News’s numbers.
Critics on both sides of the political spectrum claim the
channel favors the other, and unlike Fox and its other main rival ,left-leaning MSNBC, it has not managed
to cling to viewers who want their biases affirmed.

‘We ALL want the very best for CNN,’ she said.
‘Listening to what ppl say on this FB page would serve you
well vs disregarding it,’ she added in an apparent broadside to Preston.
‘Media should talk to America. All of America.
Listen to middle America! Listen. That’s what Ted (Turner) wanted.’

Another former colleague, Chris Turner, resented Preston’s comment
that journalists are experiencing more dangers than ever, pointing
out that ‘old timers’ went ‘through hell’ reporting on military conflicts while
also battling network unions.
‘We may be old and cranky but we paid our dues and CNN’s,’ Turner wrote.
Some CNN alumni like 40-year veteran Rick Davis, former executive vice president of news standards and practices, tried to
play diplomat, praising old and new while appealing for
civility.
But the harmony broke down quickly.
After senior audio engineer Clayton Green praised Preston’s comments,
proclaiming “Mark Preston 2028!, Pamela replied ‘Vance/Youngkin.’
‘You trying to be a troll?’ Green snapped.
‘That’s just mean and uncalled for,’ Stevens shot back. ‘Enough. Have a good night.’
Sonia Tucker, former chief of protocol affairs, chimed in with how she thinks her old network should handle ‘Trump 2.0.’
‘It would be great for all journalists/networks to keep pressing for facts and make news more less opinionated with talking heads,’ she appealed. ‘Back to basics. Report both sides #facts matter.’
CNN is planning to unleash sweeping layoffs early next year, according to an explosive new report from Puck.
It comes after the departure of stalwart Chris Wallace, and amid reports senior stars like Wolf Blitzer and Jake Tapper have both been denied raises.
There is no mention of who may be on the chopping block.
The highest-paid stars include Anderson Cooper who rakes in $20million a year, Erin Burnett at $6million and rising star Kaitlan Collins for $3million.

‘In the next few months, I’m told, CNN will implement another round of layoffs that will impact hundreds of employees across the organization,’ reporter Dylan Byers wrote earlier this month, referencing CNN’s 100-person layoff over the summer.
The fresh round of firings, insiders said, will be more geared toward the production side of things.
As a result, reporters and correspondents will be required to cover their slack, they said – describing how on-air workers will be ‘asked to assume more of the responsibilities once handled by teams of producers and production assistants.’
Byers wrote: ‘Redundant assignments will be nixed, and various divisions will be reduced or even eliminated.
‘Some of the on-air talent are also likely to be affected,’ he went on to reveal.
Sources who spoke to the reporter, who worked at CNN for three years before founding Puck, added how the looming layoffs are part of an overarching plan – one that puts a premium on the station’s digital platforms.

Former first lady Melania Trump said she was completely comfortable with posing nude
during her modeling days.
In her memoir Melania, which was released Tuesday,
she recounts how her nude photos were put on the cover of
The New York Post during the closing weeks of the 2016 presidential election.
The tabloid used the ‘disgusting heaadline,’ as Melania described it, ‘Menage à Trump.’
‘My upbringing in Europe had fostered a different perspective on nudity, a more open and accepting attitude,’ she wrote.
‘We were accustomed to beaches where nudity was commonplace, a natural and uncontroversial aspect
of life.’
She noted how ‘attitudes toward the female body in the United States were starkly different.’

Hamas’ leader Yahya Sinwar could have given an order to
execute all the hostages who remain in Gaza if he died,
a top Israeli negotiator has claimed.
Sinwar died on Wednesday after the IDF encountered him by chance, sending a drone to kill the terror
leader.
Gershon Baskin, the Israeli negotiator who oversaw Sinwar’s
2011 release from an Israeli prison, along with 1,026 Palestinian prisoners, in exchange for the
return of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shilat, said that his
death was a ‘moment of either opportunity or a moment of doom.’
‘A moment of doom because there are rumours that Sinwar instructed
people holding hostages that, should he be killed, they should kill their hostages,’ he told the Telegraph.
At the time of Sinwar’s death, just over 100 hostages remained in Gaza, with 60 thought to still be alive.
Those who remain alive are at risk of never being returned to their families, according Haaretz, which
reported on Sunday that top US officials, including Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, have assessed there
is a slim chance of a deal being brokered, given the tensions between Israel and Hamas.

While Baskin told the Telegraph that it wasn’t possible to confirm whether
Sinwar had a kill order on the hostages, he said the rumours ought to be taken seriously, given how little Hamas
appears to care for them.
He cited the horrific killing of six hostages in tunnels under Rafah in late August.
Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said the six were ‘cruelly murdered by Hamas just a short
time before we got to them.’
The six dead hostages were identified as Eden Yerushalmi, 24, Carmel Gat, 39, Almog Sarusi, 26, Alex Lubnov, 26, Ori Danino, 25, and Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23.
Five of those who were recovered had been attending the Nova music festival when Hamas terrorists began slaughtering festivalgoers,
while taking others hostage. Gat was at her family kibbutz when she

Israel is able to make a deal with Hamas.

‘In order to encourage them to do that, Israel should also be reaching

Nothing signals the start of winter quite like the return of the Fair Isle knit.
Once considered ‘ugly’ knitwear we’d only pull out from the back of our wardrobes as an alternative to a Christmas jumper (especially the red-nosed reindeer kind à la Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones’s Diary) or for a winter sport holiday (specifically for après-ski), the Fair Isle jumper has now become somewhat of a fashion statement.
The knit is named after the small, eponymous Shetland Island in Scotland and uses a traditional
knitting technique to create those distinctive patterns with multiple colours.
It was brought into vogue by an earlier Prince of Wales
(later Edward VIII) in the 1920s, and has remained a casual wardrobe staple for members of the Royal Family, including Kate Middleton, whose jumper collection includes at least three different Fair Isle designs.

Another fan of the nostalgic knit is Alexa Chung, who recently layered
a Fair Isle vest by Molly Goddard over a light blue button-down in a snap for Instagram.
The It-girl previously also wore a V-neck vest from Cotswolds-based knitwear
brand Cooking Apple, and sported a chunky Fair Isle crewneck with white, straight-leg jeans, black loafers and an oversized, black leather blazer to ring in the festive season at private members’ club in London last year.
A host of designers have dropped Fair Isle-inspired knits for AW24,
proving the multicoloured jumpers have become a timeless investment.

Lloyd George. That November night in 1919 was Edith Londonderry’s first Eve
of Parliament reception, a tradition that continued
for 20-odd years.

Londonderry House, like many of London’s great houses,
was built for entertaining. In the 18th and 19th
centuries, most aristocrats and others who lived on their estates for much of the year had
a town house to which they migrated for ‘the Season’ – those summer months filled with
balls and parties, when débutantes were presented at court
and launched into ‘society’ in the hope of making a splendid marriage.
The ballroom, Devonshire House
These houses were as magnificent as their owners could manage.
Built and decorated by the most talented of the
age, they were sumptuously furnished – walls were hung with silk,
damask and wonderful paintings – and often embellished with marble statuary.
The mustard-yellow drawing rooms of Londonderry House were filled with blue Sèvres
vases and gold plate; in the entrance hall stood a Canova statue of Theseus and the
Minotaur (now in the Victoria and Albert Museum). Suites of rooms, with a ballroom at one end,
could be flung open for entertaining.
Georgiana Cavendish (1757-1806), a lover of gambling – and threesomes
Today most of these palatial mansions have been pulled down or
turned into blocks of flats. With their disappearance went their furnishings, objets and paintings.
But what their wonderful rooms looked like can be seen in London: Lost Interiors,
a book compiled from superb black-and-white photographs of these
amazing houses, some of which belonged to aristocratic landowners, others to plutocrats or society
figures.
The drawing room, Grosvenor House
Most of the townhouses – those used for the Season rather
than permanent residences – were clustered round Park Lane, Mayfair or on Piccadilly, like Devonshire House.
Here once lived the fifth Duke of Devonshire and his wife Georgiana (pronounced jaw-janer), whom he
had married in 1774 when she was just 17. She was a celebrated beauty who quickly became a leader of fashion, famous
for her towering hairstyles three feet high, decorated with birds, fruit, even ships in sail.
The couple spent 20 years in a ménage à trois with Lady Elizabeth Foster, Georgiana’s close friend, who was also
the Duke’s mistress. Meanwhile, Georgiana’s gambling led to mounting debts:
on her death in 1806 they were found to be the
equivalent of £4 million in today’s money.
The rich, restless second Duke of Westminster, AKA Bendor, in his 20s
Another Park Lane mansion was Grosvenor House, belonging to the dukes of
Westminster and one of the largest in London, as befitted the
family’s status and wealth (their huge fortune came from their ownership of Mayfair).
Bendor, the blond and handsome second duke (1879-1953) was known as one of the richest men in England, lavishing
jewels on his mistresses, chief among whom was Coco Chanel.
The picture gallery, Grosvenor House
A restless soul, Bendor would arrive without warning at any of his houses (or yachts).
All were kept ready: cars fuelled, silver polished, servants in livery.
But after the First World War, during which Grosvenor House had been requisitioned as a hospital, land prices had risen so high that even for Bendor it had become uneconomic and he
sold it. It was demolished in 1927 and the Grosvenor House Hotel
was built on the site.

At the other end of the scale was 8 Pelham Place, the South Kensington home of Cecil Beaton from 1940 to 1975.
Superbly furnished by this brilliant photographer, it
was described loftily by the diarist Chips Channon (for whom
the word ‘snob’ could have been invented – in his diaries he declares, ‘I am only
really happy with royalty’) as ‘a tiny but super-attractive snuffbox of
a house’. Beaton, himself no social slouch, ran him close: at his parties the women often wore stiletto heels,
which pitted the floor, and later he would point them out, saying,
‘That’s Princess Marina, that’s Julie Andrews, that’s Vivien Leigh…’
French furnishings at 8 Pelham Place, the South

Beaton’s near neighbour in Pelham Place, until the mid-60s, was the great stage designer Oliver Messel.
When Messel’s nephew Tony Armstrong-Jones (later Lord
Snowdon) became engaged to Princess Margaret, Messel laid on a lunch,
asking the Princess if there was anyone she would
particularly like to meet. She said she had always greatly admired the witty cabaret star Bea Lillie and so Messel invited her.
What none of them knew was that Bea Lillie had a drinking habit.
At the end of lunch she slid quietly under the table and was carried upstairs to
sleep it off. Tony and the Princess took their leave and Messel rushed back to his studio,
where he was busy with fittings for Elizabeth Taylor, only to be
interrupted by a telephone call.

‘It’s Kensington Police Station here, Mr Messel,’ said the
voice at the other end. ‘We thought you ought to know that there’s a naked woman on your balcony, throwing bottles at everyone who passes by.’
Among the last of these fascinating residences to survive was
the aforementioned Londonderry House. Throughout the 20s and 30s it had seen receptions and
balls, hosted by the Londonderrys for their four daughters and two
granddaughters. When eventually it had to go, in July 1962, a farewell party for 300 was given by Alastair, the 9th Marquess.
Live sounds were supplied by a blues band featuring a swaggering young Mick

An Australian tourist has died after plunging from
the sixth floor of a car park at an airport in Thailand.
The body of Justin Beasly, 50, was discovered in a parking bay for motorcycles at the Phuket
International Airport complex on Tuesday night.
Authorities arrived at the scene after a security guard reported the man’s death to local police about 8.30pm.
‘The deceased was found face-down in the motorcycle parking
area of the airport,’ Police Captain Suport Muangkhai from
Sakhu Police station said.

(pictured left) expressed concerns over her uncle’s welfare after
he was last seen on Sunday making his way towards Nanai road in Patong
Mr Beasly was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, black shorts
and a pair of leather shoes at the time of his death.
According to the Bangkok Post, CCTV footage captured the man arriving at the airport alone.
He was then seen walking along a road to the car park before
he entered the building and took a lift up to the sixth floor.
Police said the man was seen tearing up bank notes before
he fell.
Mr Beasly had arrived in Thailand on August
24 but then left a few days later.
He came back on August 28 and booked himself into a hotel in Patong, a
resort on west coast of Phuket in southern Thailand.

According to police, Mr Beasly did not have a ticket to fly
out of the country.
He had previously been to Phuket on April 11 before he left
on April 23.
His niece Kia Tai O’Connor reported her uncle missing on Monday night after she posted an alert on the Phuket Expats Facebook group.
‘Has anyone seen my uncle?’ she wrote. ‘We are concerned about him’.
According to Ms O’Connor, a staff member of the hotel where Mr Beasly was staying at, saw him making his way towards Nanai road in Patong on Sunday.
Police Captain Suporn said officials are investigating the incident.
‘The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the Australian’s death and [we] have also been in contact with the Australian Embassy in Thailand
to inform his relatives,’ he said.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade declined
to provide further details to Daily Mail due to privacy concerns.

‘We send our deepest condolences to the family during
this difficult time,’.

SAN FRANCISCO/SEOUL, March 23 (Reuters) – LG Energy Solution (LGES), a supplier for electric car makers Tesla and Lucid, said on Thursday in Korea it plans to invest 1.7 trillion Korean won ($1.4 billion) to build a battery factory in Arizona by 2024
to meet demand from “prominent startups” and
other North American customers.
This will be its first U.S. factory to make cylindrical cells, a
type of battery that has been used in Tesla and Lucid vehicles, LGES said.
Construction will begin in the second quarter of 2022, with mass production to start in 2024 with production capacity of 11 gigawatt hours, LGES said
in a statement.
Earlier, Reuters reported that potential customers would include EV makers Tesla, Lucid and Proterra and Philip Morris , maker of IQOS heated-tobacco sticks, among others.
The report cited people familiar with the matter.
LGES said in a statement that it plans to consider securing additional production capacity at
its Arizona factory in the future.
“The Arizona factory could add further production capacity in the future as we are seeing growing demand for cylindrical batteries from various customers, including automakers and power tool makers,” said
an official at LGES.
On Tuesday, Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said battery production would
be “the limiting factor” for vehicle production in two to three years.
He has called on suppliers to raise production, while Tesla starts making cells itself.
Tesla, Lucid and Proterra did not immediately
respond to requests for comment. Philip Morris declined
to comment.
Japan’s Panasonic Corp, a Tesla supplier, along with Contemporary Amperex
Technology Co Ltd, is also looking to invest billions of dollars
to build a factory to make a new type of electric vehicle (EV) battery for Tesla,
public broadcaster NHK reported this month.
Panasonic is looking at building the factory in either Oklahoma or Kansas, not far from Tesla’s new Texas vehicle plant, NHK reported.
Lucid Chief Financial Officer Sherry House told Reuters last month the company, which has a
car factory in Arizona, had signed multi-year supply agreements with two battery suppliers,
and the agreement “does have some capacity coming from state-side cell lines.”
She did not identify the companies. Lucid sources
batteries from LGES and Samsung SDI.
LGES, which raised more than $10 billion in its initial public offering in Korea in January, has announced a flurry of
battery joint ventures with GM and Stellantis in the United States and Canada.
